Duke of Edinburgh Award
MYA is a Direct Learning Centre for the Duke of Edinburgh award, this means we are an open centre for DofE provision across Liverpool and Knowsley.
This is our first year of operation, so it was great to get a team of Bronze participants out on their expedition element last weekend. An all female team of 7 young people took part in the 2 day expedition which saw them walk from Bispham Hall to the MYA Outdoor Education Centre next to Knowsley Hall.
Across the 2 days (which included an overnight camp), the group faced many challenges and had to use their newly found skills. For many this was the first time they had done anything like this and the idea of carrying all their belongings and camping equipment was at first quite daunting. However they worked well as a team and overcame the struggles of tiredness, navigation and communal cooking to complete the expedition and finish with high spirits. The group showed great resilience and teamwork and are looking forward to completing the rest of the award over the coming months.
