MYA Knowsley – Youth Sector Three Peaks Fundraiser

9 May 2023

On Friday 5th May, a team of dedicated youth work professionals completed the Yorkshire 3 peaks; a 24.3 mile walk over tough and steep terrain! The goal is to raise as much money as possible for the ‘Young Person’s Foodbank’ which is located at MYA’s Our Place on Longview Drive in Huyton.

What started off as an MYA venture quickly captured the attention of our local community partners, with whom we work closely all year-round to ensure the best opportunities and outcomes for young people. Participants included staff from The Lee Cooper Foundation, Youth Focus Northwest and the Bill Shankly Football Academy.

A total of 7 individuals will now undertake the challenge, which in addition to being for a good cause, speaks directly to the interests and values of the group. Well-being is a common theme that underpins much of the work carried out by the participating organisations and is important to all the group members. However, not only is well-being important to them professionally, but it’s also a key driver for them all personally too. Lesley runs, Jack trains daily at JD Gym, Gina skates and is part of the skater community, Ryan takes part in a lot of organised walking fundraisers, Lilly plays netball, Stu cycles, and John plays and teaches football daily, so this is a fairly active bunch of youth work professionals!

If you would like to support the team and help us ensure that our ‘Young Person Foodbank’ remains well stocked you can do so via our ‘Just Giving Page’; Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge – JustGiving

Lyn who manages the foodbank is delighted with the gesture and says:

“Thank you for supporting our project! There are a lot of young people living independently in Knowsley, who are accessing the service and tell us is they wouldn’t be able to eat some weeks without the MYA Young Person’s foodbank. The cost-of-living crisis is having a huge impact on those who were already struggling, and they need our help!”
